KYO-MACHIYA is one pattern from the KYOTOSCAPE collection and is drawn based on latticework often seen in kyo-machiya, traditional wooden houses in Kyoto. To achieve an attractive mixture of old and new, we have adorned the space between each grid with small patterns called komon. These have been long used in traditional weavings for temples and shrines by Kaji Kinran Co., Ltd. KYOTOSCAPE is a collection of textile designs inspired by the beautiful scenery in Kyoto, the hometown of KAJI KINRAN. In the collection, while preserving the traditional technique, we explore new forms of expression through a variety of materials and unconventional patterns.
